Cagayan de Oro City to Iligan City bus guide

Cagayan de Oro City to Iligan City runs 63 kilometers west along the shoreline of Macajalar Bay on the national highway. Two operators work the corridor - Rural Transit of Mindanao and Super Five Transport - and between them they put a bus on the road every thirty minutes, twenty-four hours a day.

Route overview and terminal information

Buses leave from the Bulua Terminal on the western edge of Cagayan de Oro and finish at the Iligan City Terminal. Bulua is the terminal for westbound services; Agora, on the other side of the city, handles the eastbound and southbound runs. Turning up at Agora for an Iligan bus is the single most common mistake on this corridor.

  • Average travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, with the shorter figure holding outside peak hours.
  • Departures: Every 30 minutes, around the clock, from both operators - 48 departures each per day in each direction.
  • Fares: A flat P200.00 air-conditioned fare. Both operators charge the same, so there is nothing to compare on price.
  • Bus type: Air-conditioned regular service only. No non-stop or express tier runs this corridor.

Where the bus stops

The route follows the coast through ten Misamis Oriental municipalities, in the same order in both directions:

  • Opol, El Salvador City, Alubijid, Laguindingan, Gitagum, Libertad, Initao, Naawan, Manticao, and Lugait.
  • Laguindingan: The stop for Laguindingan Airport, which serves both Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. Passengers heading to a flight use this corridor rather than a separate airport service.
  • Lugait: The last town in Misamis Oriental before the road crosses into Lanao del Norte and reaches Iligan.

Practical travel tips

  • Do not plan around a departure time: With a bus every thirty minutes in both directions, arriving at the terminal and taking the next one is the whole procedure. There is no advantage to booking ahead.
  • Bulua for westbound, Agora for the rest: The two terminals are far enough apart that arriving at the wrong one costs the better part of an hour.
  • Either operator, same fare: Rural Transit and Super Five run identical service classes at an identical price on this corridor. Take whichever bus is loading.
  • Onward from Iligan: Iligan City Terminal is where services for Lanao del Sur, Marawi, and the Pagadian and Zamboanga corridors connect. It is a common transfer point rather than a final stop.

Travel advice

There is no timetable to plan around on this corridor - buses leave every half hour, day and night. Board at Bulua, not Agora: Cagayan de Oro splits its terminals by direction and the two are on opposite sides of the city. Allow more than the posted 1 hour 30 minutes if you are travelling during the morning or late-afternoon peak along the Misamis Oriental coast.

How MindaRide verifies this route

Departure frequency, the flat fare, and the coastal stop sequence come from normalized MindaRide route data covering both operators in both directions, cross-checked against terminal research.
